| Naviculator - Equine Foot Alignment System. |
![]() Now Available with Air Gap Technique Adapter The Naviculators Rotating machine stand with integral tilting cassette holder provides discrete rotating indexing, facilitating oblique, lateral, and ventrodorsal views of the angled foot. Prone foot views are made possible by removal of angled foot support device. Naviculator Foot Examination Device. Equine practitioners know that consistent positioning allows repeatable views, important for good diagnostic radiographs of the equine foot. Clinical field situations often result in varying angles, distances, and exposures. Lesions (particularly on the navicular bone and the 3rd phalanx) can be obscured or eliminated by variations in the radiographic positioning and exposure technique. The Naviculator design aligns all 3 factors - the machine, the hoof and the cassette. Optional air gap technique cassette adapter increases detail without the use of grid, plus provides magnification for a close up view. Device Features: | ![]() |
Operational Technique: When possible and feasible remove the shoe and clean the foot of all debris, especially along the sulcus of the frog and bulb of the heel. When circumstances allow, sedate the horse. Set the block slightly forward of the normal stance and place the foot in the device, positioning it in the center of the foot block. Use one hand, (lead glove), to steady the leg and place the cassette in desired slot. The foot remains in the flexed position for all views. Dorsal-ventral and dorsal-ventral 45 degrees oblique and flexed lateral are standard views with cassette in the holder assuring perpendicular beam-film projection. This unique feature prevents Image Distortion and assures consistent, optimum image of PIII and the navicular bone. Using a grid will increase detail on all views for the navicular study. (increase kV by 6 or increase time by 60% when using a 6:1 grid) The 45 degree oblique puts each wing of PIII and navicular bone in relief. With the use of our air gap technique cassette adapter additional benefits are achieved including Image Magnification for a close up view, Increased detail by reducing scatter with out the use of a grid. For a complete evaluation of the foot, additional views (A-P and Lateral) are recommended by using the foot block under each foot with the 65o toe support removed. The block should contain a wire marker in the top to help the veterinarian and farrier determine how the hoof capsule relates to the ground surface. The machine tray offers a adjustable & lockable focal distance, assuring consistent technique, calibration and detail. Adjustable Clamps (provided), secure the x-ray unit to the base. The operator moves the unit through a 180 degree arc with 450 Indexing, taking all desired views. The swing arm offers a quick, efficient technique that locks out known variables that constantly prevent perfect imaging. |
| Kit Contains: Assembly & Disassembly: Naviculator Exposure Techniques. This system is designed for any portable x-ray unit. The x-ray unit fits in the machine tray and the focal-film distance (Of 26” or 66cm) is adjusted on the stainless swing arm that connects the tray to the hoof block itself. In this way the FFD is consistent for all views. The x-ray unit and machine tray move through a 1800 arc, allowing optimum, repeatable positioning for all desired views, DP, Oblique and Lateral. Recommended Foot X-Ray Setup.
